Somali Studies for Educators began with the 2009 K12 Teachers Workshop on Somali History, Language, and Culture. In the future, OSU plans to offer more workshops for educators who work with Somali children, youth, and families. Posted below is information on the 2009 workshop and a course that may be offered in 2013 by the the College of Education and Human Ecology’s Office of Outreach and Engagement.
For detailed information about a course, follow the ‘Read More…” links below. Syllabi are provided so that educators who wish to pursue independent study of topics covered in the courses may do so. Video clips from the 2009 workshop, organized by theme, are available here, and links to presenters’ slideshows are embedded in the 2009 syllabus. Bildhaan articles are available online at the Digital Commons @ Macalester, and several other readings may also be accessed free on the web. Many of the videos listed in the syllabi are posted on youtube and/or Bartamaha.
If you or your institution are interested in the full, edited DVD archive of the 2009 workshop, it will be available soon from OSU’s Foreign Language Publications.
